Trojans Wrap Up Tournament Play at Diamond 9 Citrus Classic

TROY, Alabama- Troy softball (8-6) will complete tournament play on the road as the team travels to Orlando to participate in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic Friday through Sunday, March 2-4.

The Trojans are set to face FIU and UCSB on Friday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Fordham and Niagara on Saturday at 11:30 and 4:30, and will wrap up the weekend with a morning meeting against Binghamton on Sunday at 8 a.m.

Sophomores Logan Calhoun and Katie Webb have been the offensive workhorses so far this season with .356 and .341 averages at the plate, respectively. Webb leads the team in most offensive categories with 16 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Troy's first opponent of the weekend, FIU, enters the tournament 9-8 overall, after a 4-2 weekend at the FIU Classic. Coastal Carolina transfer, Tatyana Forbes, paces the squad with a .395 at the plate. With six wins on the year, sophomore Shannon Saile has been the ace in the circle for the Panthers with 101 strikeouts in 68.1 innings of work.

The Trojans will take on the UCSB Gauchos in the teams' first meeting on Friday. The Gauchos are 7-8 on the season, as all seven losses come in the last 10 games. Through 12 games, Sammy Fabian has posted an impressive .433 at the plate with 13 hits, two doubles and a triple. Lena Mayer leads in the circle with a 2.28 ERA and 21 strikeouts.

Fordham makes the trip south just 1-9 on the year, with the its lone win against Drake. Freshman Paige Rauch leads with .286 average and .679 slugging percentage. She also earned the Rams' win in the circle, with 0.87 ERA through 10.1 innings.

At 3-6 on the season, Niagara travels to the Diamond 9 Classic after going 1-4 at the GCU Purple Classic. Freshman Kelsey Harrigan paces the Golden Eagles with eight hits and .333 average. Niagara has struggled in the circle, as Karson Cotton leads with 3.07 ERA, but recently earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Lastly, Binghamton enters the weekend after playing just four games and going 1-3. Jessica Rutherford has had an impressive start to the season, posting six hits and .429 average. The Bearcats have three batters hitting above the .385 mark. In the circle, Rozlyn Price has recorded a 3.00 ERA through 9.0 innings of work, and has thrown eight strikeouts.

- Troy ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with a team ERA of 2.45 ERA. Glover has been the Trojans' ace in the circle with a 3-0 record and 35 strikeouts.
- Calhoun leads the conference with 14 runs scored, double of the second most runs scored on the team.
- Graves and Glover rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in the the league with 2.33 and 2.35 ERAs, while Glover ranks sixth with 35 strikeouts.
- Scoring early runs is the key for the team, as the Trojans are 6-1 when bringing runs across in the first inning, and they are 6-0 when out-hitting their opponent.
