ORLANDO- Troy (13-6) completed the sweep of the D9 Citrus Classic on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Binghamton (1-4) as the Trojans went 5-0 on the weekend.
Logan Calhoun finished the weekend with six hits, four runs, including a triple and a home run, and five RBI.
For the third straight game, Calhoun led off with a hit, this time a triple, to get the bats going early for the Trojans. Madeline Porter followed with an RBI-single, bringing Calhoun home with no outs, but three fly balls left Porter stranded.
Both teams struggled to get a run across the plate, after Troy's initial 1-0 lead in the first, until Madeline Porter posted her second hit of the day, a double to get a runner in scoring position with only one out. Katie Webb stepped up to the plate and hammered a line drive to centerfield, bringing Porter home as Troy took a 2-0 lead.
Binghamton answered with a solo shot over the left center wall in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the Trojans' lead to one, but the Troy defense fought back with three quick outs, limiting the damage.
Two Bearcat fielding errors allowed in the sixth, put Trojans on first and second, but Binghamton held them from crossing the plate. Troy did not allow a base runner in the bottom of the inning, as the Trojans needed just three more outs to earn their 13th win of the season.
With the tying run at second, and the winning run at the plate, Webb made a spectacular diving catch at first to end the scoring threat, as Troy walked away from the Citrus Classic with a 2-1 win, and a 5-0 record.
