TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The NCAA's active leader in career shutouts, Leanna Johnson, added another one to her tally as she spun seven scoreless innings to lead Troy past Lamar, 2-0, Sunday morning in the Trojans' finale at the Unconquered Invitational hosted by Florida State.
The victory propelled Troy (10-5) to a winning weekend and 4-2 week ahead of Wednesday's matchup against No. 20 Auburn at the Troy Softball Complex.
Johnson improved to 7-1 on the season after she scattered five hits around three walks for her 31st career shutout. Also the NCAA's active leader in strikeouts, the senior right-hander added six more to her tally, and Johnson is now just 10 wins shy of becoming Troy's all-time leader.
Taylor McKinney wrapped up a solid week at the plate with a pair of hits, a walk and a stolen base in her three plate appearances. For the week, the versatile sophomore led the Trojans batting at a .412 clip with three extra-base hits and seven RBIs.
Libby Baker led off a scoreless fourth inning with a single to left center, and Emma Grace Walker took over on the base paths for the Troy first baseman. Jade Sinness moved Walker into scoring position with a sac bunt, and Audra Thompson ripped a single to center to plate the game's first run.
McKinney doubled the Trojans' lead in the fifth with a triple after Katelynn de Leon drew a walk to open the inning. D'Aun Riggs also picked up a hit and stole a base for the Trojans.
Karyana Mitchell (2-7) suffered the loss for Lamar (3-15) after she allowed two runs on four hits in four innings of work.
