Softball Completes Weekend Sweep; Johnson Wins Fifth Game of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Leanna Johnson tossed her 32nd career shutout to pick up her fifth win of the week and lead Troy to a 5-0 victory over North Florida in Sunday's finale of the UNF Spring Break Challenge. The Trojans have now won nine of their last 10 games.

Troy (19-7) capped a 5-0 week with the victory and ended a stretch of 17-of-18 games away from home with a remarkable 14-3 record.

Johnson started three of the five games this past week and earned two wins in relief. Johnson (15-2) allowed just one earned run, nine hits and four walks while she struck out 26 batters in 22 innings of work; opponents hit .123 for the week.

Jade Sinness broke open a scoreless game with a two-out, two-run double in the third inning, scoring D'Aun Riggs and Anslee Finch. One of three UNF (15-7) errors allowed Audra Thompson to score one of three Troy runs in the fourth, while Taylor McKinney doubled home a run, and Riggs scored on another Osprey error to put Troy on top 5-0.

Johnson struck out eight, walked one and allowed just two hits as she moved within two wins of becoming Troy's all-time leader with 94. She is also now just 24 strikeouts shy of reaching the 1,000 mark for her career.

McKinney hit .500 on the week with a .929 slugging percentage thanks to a double, triple and home run, while Kennedi Gaton drove in a team-best five runs. The Trojans combined for 14 extra-base hits in the five games, while Troy's pitchers limited its opponents to just three extra-base hits.

Troy hosts Texas State at the Troy Softball Complex for a three-game Sun Belt set this weekend; the Bobcats knocked off Alabama this past weekend.
