Women's Cross Country Earns Academic Honor
TROY, Ala. – The Troy University cross country teams continued fall practice on Saturday in preparation for the 2013 season. The first meet of the year is now just 20 days away.
"I'm pleased with the outcome of today's time trial," distance coach Jeff Jenkins said. "We are still waiting on a few people to get cleared, but the group we had today and yesterday has already shown the direction that the program is going. All of the credit goes to the student-athletes for putting in the summer workouts and showing up prepared."
Each side returns its top runner from a season ago, with Enock Kirui on the men's squad and Julia Ostendorf on the women's. They will also be working in a lot of new talent this year, with 11 freshmen on each team.
"We saw a wonderful effort at the second day of cross country practice," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "Coach Jenkins has worked hard to create a group of talented athletes with depth."
The season starts on August 30, with the Trojan Invitational. In all, Troy will host three meets, including the annual Coach "O" Invitational on October 12, and the Sun Belt Championships on November 2.
